BRANSTON, James

  General Notes:

A bit of an anomaly in that the 1871 census indicates him to be 40, but should be older. He does not appear on the 1851 census for Affpuddle. Evidently unmarried, or perhaps he was married and living elsewhere, wife died and he returned to East Farm in 1861 and then managed the farm following the death of his mother.

• He was baptized on 16 Oct 1825 in Harbridge, Hampshire, England. ¹

• He appeared on the census in 1841 in Affpuddle, Dorset, England. ¹ James (13)

• He appeared on the census in 1851 in Bovington Farm, Wool, Dorset, England. ² (baliff of 500 acres employing 25 labourers). Sister Kitty was also on this census for the same place.

• He appeared on the census in 1861 in East Farm, Affpuddle, Dorset. James (36)

• He appeared on the census in 1871 in East Farm, Affpuddle, Dorset. James Branston (40, famer of 400 acres employing 10 men and 4 boys)
